Wind Chimes Can Brighten Your Home
Wind chimes have come a long way since they were basically bells. In some chimes the tubes are suspended at varying levels, allowing the striker to hit each tube in the center, or musical “sweet spot”, radiating the purest tones, like a church bell. Sounds of celebration peal out in a brisk wind, but a gentle breeze on the chimes brings to mind strains of distant church bells.
You’ve no doubt seen tubular metal wind chimes in the stores. You will find a variety of chimes in metal, glass, and wood for a great accompaniment to your patio space. Chimes are also made of materials other than metal or wood and in shapes other than tubes or rods. Each type of metal makes a different sound. On the topic of materials, soft metals such as copper will generate “soft” tones, like hitting a bottle with a rubber mallet. Hard metals, such as steel or aluminum, produce a sharp tone.
Wind chimes for personal use come in diverse designs. What better way to enjoy a nice sunny day than to hear the gentle sound of a wind chime dancing in the light breeze. Wind chimes are a beautiful way to brighten up any home or bring relaxing sounds to any garden. Wind chimes make great gifts for all occasions.
Chimes or bells were first used before written history. They are attributed to the Chinese, who over three thousand years ago made them to generate melodic sounds for their religious services. Chimes are heard in all the corners of the world, from the temples of Asia to the Bells of Liberty.
